Planning sound for 200–500 guests is not a simple “one speaker per 100 people” calculation. The right rig depends on audience area, venue shape, background noise, music style, target level, listening distance, speaker sensitivity and coverage pattern. This guide uses a practical SLV INDIA reference system—2 × TA212 dual-12-inch line-array tops, 2 × TA218 dual-18-inch subwoofers and an SLV Mi8 mixer—as a starting architecture, not a guaranteed coverage or SPL promise.

01The Sizing Challenge: Why One Rig Doesn't Fit All

English

Guest count is only a rough planning clue. A crowded room adds absorption—especially from clothing, bodies and furnishings—while hard floors, glass and low ceilings can create strong reflections and long reverberation. Indoors, excessive energy bouncing around the room can make speech and music less intelligible. Outdoors, there are fewer enclosing surfaces to reinforce the sound, and the audience may spread over a much larger area. Distance, wind and speaker aiming become major factors.

Hinglish

Bohot se sound wale 200 logon ke banquet hall mein bina planning ke extra bass aur tops laga dete hain, jisse room goonjne lagta hai. Dusri taraf 500 logon ke open lawn mein chhota rig rakh dete hain aur last row tak clarity nahi pahunchti. Sirf guest count nahi—venue ka size, shape, ceiling, crowd density aur dance-floor position dekh kar setup choose karo.

Indoor banquet vs. outdoor lawn

  • Indoor hall: Survey ceiling height, reflective surfaces and reverberation. Aim speakers to cover people, not walls and ceiling. Controlled directivity and sensible level distribution often matter more than simply adding boxes.
  • Outdoor lawn: Map the audience depth and width. Plan coverage at the farthest listening point, account for wind and avoid aiming high-frequency energy above the crowd.

02Calculating Real Output, SPL & Headroom

English

PMPO and peak-watt stickers do not tell you how loud a system will be. Compare continuous or AES/program ratings only when the manufacturer defines the test method, and check amplifier power at the actual load impedance. For coverage planning, speaker sensitivity, maximum SPL, directivity, number of cabinets, processing and distance matter as much as amplifier watts.

There is no universal rule that 4,000–7,000 W will produce 100–105 dB at 15–20 m for every 200–500-person event. That outcome depends on the specific loudspeaker sensitivity and maximum SPL, array configuration, frequency band, room, measurement method and whether the target is average or peak. Treat any wattage range as a preliminary equipment budget—not a guaranteed SPL specification. For a real design, use manufacturer data and prediction software, then verify with calibrated measurements onsite.

Hinglish

Speaker box par 4000W PMPO likha hona actual clean output ka proof nahi hai. Dance floor par bass drop aur vocal dono clear chahiye toh driver ki sensitivity, max SPL, amplifier ka real output, impedance aur DSP tuning check karo. Sirf wattage dekh kar 500 logon ka sound system final mat karo.

Think in frequency bands—not a fixed 70/30 watt rule

Subwoofers often need substantial amplifier capacity because low frequencies demand large cone excursion and programme material can carry high bass energy. But a fixed 70% sub / 30% top power split is not a universal engineering formula. Choose the ratio from the actual cabinets, crossover, programme material and desired tonal balance.

Do not buy by watts alone: Check continuous/AES rating, nominal impedance, sensitivity, maximum SPL, recommended amplifier range, crossover limits and limiter requirements for each exact model.

03The Practical Rig Formula: 2 Tops + 2 Subs

English

A two-top/two-sub rig is a useful transport-friendly starting point for many mobile DJ deployments, but it is not a blanket guarantee for 500 guests or an 80-foot throw. The right configuration depends on cabinet output and coverage, audience footprint, required level and whether the system is ground-stacked or flown using approved hardware.

Configuration A — compact indoor banquet

For a modest hall and moderate dance-floor footprint, consider two suitable tops with two single-18 or dual-18 sub cabinets. Ground-stack only where the cabinet manufacturer permits it, the stack is stable and secure, and the high-frequency section can cover the audience without obstruction.

Configuration B — larger outdoor wedding

The SLV reference package in this guide is 2 × TA212 dual-12-inch line-array tops paired with 2 × TA218 dual-18-inch subs. It is a candidate rig to assess against the site plan and product specifications. For a broad or deep audience, additional fills, delay speakers or more subwoofer capacity may be required. A two-box-per-side arrangement is not automatically a flown line array; use manufacturer-approved rigging and deployment instructions.

Hinglish

2 tops + 2 subs ek practical starting package ho sakta hai—transport, crew aur setup time ke liye bhi convenient. Lekin 500 guests, wide lawn ya 80 feet throw ka promise bina site survey aur SPL prediction ke mat karo. Kabhi front-fill, delay ya extra bass ki zaroorat pad sakti hai.

Subwoofer coupling: Placing subs close together can increase output in parts of the low-frequency range through acoustic summation, but the gain is frequency- and geometry-dependent. Do not promise a fixed +3 to +6 dB at every seat. Measure and listen for cancellations across the audience.

04Signal Chain & Power Distribution: DJ Console to DG Set

English

Keep the audio signal path orderly: DJ controller master output to the SLV Mi8 line input; mixer balanced Main L/R to the speaker management processor; DSP outputs to the correct amplifier channels; amplifier outputs to the matching tops and subwoofers using correctly rated speaker cable. Set crossover, polarity, delay, limiters and amplifier gains from the exact loudspeaker and amplifier documentation.

Generator capacity cannot be selected from speaker wattage labels alone. Amplifier mains draw depends on programme material, amplifier efficiency, power factor and limiter behaviour. Have a qualified electrician size the DG set, distribution, cable gauge, earthing and phase balance. Separate lighting loads where practical, but do not arbitrarily assign equipment to phases without checking the generator and distribution design.

Hinglish

DG set par sound chalate waqt voltage ke saath frequency, earthing aur load balance bhi check karo. Sirf “230V aa raha hai” dekhna kaafi nahi. Fogger, moving heads aur heavy lighting ke switching loads audio ko disturb kar sakte hain. Generator distribution qualified electrician se design karwao—earth wire kabhi remove mat karo.

DSP setup: safe starting method

  • Use the loudspeaker maker’s specified high-pass and crossover limits. A 35 Hz subwoofer HPF or 85–100 Hz crossover may be a starting point for some systems, but is not a preset for every TA212/TA218 revision.
  • Set polarity and delay using measurement and listening checks. Confirm that the subs and tops sum smoothly around crossover.
  • Configure peak and thermal limiters from verified driver ratings, amplifier gain and processor calibration. Never guess limiter voltage.
  • Use speaker cable of suitable conductor size and connectors for amplifier output. OFC microphone/interconnect cable is not a substitute for correctly rated speaker cable.

05The SLV INDIA Reference Package: TA212 + TA218 Touring Rig

English

For rental operators evaluating a scalable wedding-event rig, the proposed SLV reference combination is two TA212 dual-12-inch tops, two TA218 dual-18-inch subwoofers, an SLV Mi8 mixer and suitable SLV cabling. Confirm exact product revision, driver configuration, impedance, continuous/AES ratings, sensitivity, maximum SPL, recommended amplifier and rigging instructions from the current product listings and manuals before final system design.

The TA130N neodymium HF driver is referenced in the supplied product brief for the TA212. Verify the exact driver fitted to the cabinet and its protection method on the current specification sheet. No speaker should be described as immune to HF failure: clipping, feedback, incorrect crossover, excessive EQ and thermal overload can damage drivers.

Hinglish

SLV TA212 + TA218 ka combination ek strong touring-package concept hai: line-array tops se mid-high coverage aur dual-18 subs se low-frequency support. Final purchase se pehle apne event size, transport, amp/DSP matching aur exact product specs verify karo. Har venue mein same rig ka result same nahi hota.

Important product note: The comparison above is deliberately specification-led rather than promising “80+ ft crystal clear throw”, guaranteed thermal protection or a fixed rental premium. Those claims need independently verified measurements, exact model documentation and local market evidence.

Practical 5-Point Event Checklist

  1. Venue survey. Measure width, depth, ceiling height, audience area and the farthest listening point. Confirm whether ground stacking or approved rigging is suitable. Hinglish: Venue ka rough map aur audience depth pehle note karo.
  2. Subwoofer placement. Test subs together and compare with split placement. Coupling can improve output in some bands, but check coverage for cancellations. Hinglish: Subs ko paas rakh kar test karo; har jagah same bass assume mat karo.
  3. Crossover tuning. Use manufacturer-approved HPF, crossover, polarity and delay. 35 Hz HPF / 85–100 Hz crossover are examples to evaluate—not universal presets. Hinglish: DSP setting cabinet ke manual aur measurement ke hisaab se karo.
  4. Headroom check. Avoid clipping at controller, mixer, DSP and amplifier. Unity is a reference point, not a command to run every meter at 0 dB. Hinglish: Har stage clean rakho; red light ko normal mat samjho.
  5. Use correct cabling and safe power. Balanced interconnects for compatible signal links; correctly rated speaker cable for amp-to-speaker runs; qualified DG distribution. Hinglish: Signal cable aur speaker cable alag purpose ke hain—sahi cable sahi jagah use karo.
